Creek Lore

Creek Lore is a community based art project focussing on First Creek between Marryatville High School and Tusmore Park. It will take shape as a series of 1 hour guided walks on the 13th and the 20th March 2017. The walks will take place along this section of the creek as it flows through public and private land ownership. More here http://creeklore.blogspot.com.au/

I have been working on artworks for the new Royal Adelaide Hospital. Here are some trials. Digital map drawing, the theme is water. Two of the works are 22m long! Will post images when project is complete....

This work Rapid Bay Road, (79 x 64 cm, acrylic and pastel on paper) won first prize recently in the Fleurieu Vista category of the Fleurieu Art Prize!

  • Mallow and Almond Pesto

Mallow (steamed), almond (soaked), sunflower seeds, olive oil, lemon juice, salt, pepper, garlic.

  • Weed Pie Nana’s Crust Style

wild spinach, nettle, Mallow, Nannas crust.

  • Finnochio (fennel) Weed Pie Greek Style

50% fennel, 50% any other winner greens, enlcosed in a flat pie from hand spread basic flour dough.

  • Grilled Nopales

Young prickly pear pads on the bbq with a little salt pepper and olive oil.

  • Cold Nopale Salad.

Steamed nopales, fried onion, olives, olive oil, lemon, salt, pepper.

  • Wood Sorrel and Loquat Guacamole,

Loquat, wood sorrel, avocado, tomato, salt, pepper, olive oil.

  • Wild Winners Salad

Wild greens tossed with edible flowers dressed in loquat, carob and mustard.

  • Seasonal Fruit Platter

Prickly Pears (3 variaties), loquats and mulberries.

  • Nasturtium Leaf Kangaroo with Spring Onion

Kangaroo mince with spring onion wrapped in Nasturtium Leaf on the barbeque grill

THE FLYING FRUIT PROJECT Sturt Street Community School and visual artist Laura Wills 2011




This Carclew Youth Arts Artist in Schools project is a community arts project about the creative transportation of fruits and vegetables. Through learning about the term "Food Miles" and new digital drawing processes including using computer pen tablets, students will visually explore the creation of their favorite fruits/ vegetables, learning valuable information about them and their transportation along the way.

The result of this project will culminate in a community exhibition of the students work at Wilsons Organics during 2011 SALA Festival.

Reno is a collaborative exhibition at FELTspace between Laura Wills and William Cheesman that is grounded in environmental themes as well as discussing ideas of habitation and pestilence. Part of this exhibition includes work undertaken by the artists during an Asia Link Residency.

Artists Bio's

Laura Wills is a visual artist based in Adelaide, practicing a diverse range of media from drawing to installation, media arts and community projects. Wills has an interest in using found materials, collaboration and basing projects on social/ environmental themes. She regularly exhibits and has received numerous grants and residencies both in Australia and overseas.

Laura has previously exhibited at Next Wave Festival, Contemporary Art Centre of South Australia, Adelaide Central School Gallery, Light Square Gallery (TAFE SA), Hill Smith Gallery, ArtRoom 5 and the Helpmann Academy Graduate Show.

She has also undertaken residencies at Cemeti Art House, Yogyakarta, Indonesia (supported by Asia Link) and Sanskriti Kendra Residency India, (supported by the Helpman Academy,) as well as Room Exchange residency, Vienna (supported by SAYAB\Carclew)

William Cheesman has a broad range of skills including work in the architectural field, drafting and primarily model making. More recently he has been working in remote indigenous communities, on community and collaborative art projects and freak bicycle construction. He has an ongoing interest in the environment and aesthetics of art and design in everyday life.

Wills and Cheesman regularly collaborate on a variety of professional and community art projects, including plant in a purse workshops for children, interactive public art projects and large scale installation works.

This exhibition has also been supported by an Australia Council grant.

Asialink Arts Residency Artist Talk with Laura Wills

Laura Wills undertook an Asialink visual arts residency (September - November 2009) to Indonesia hosted by Cemeti Art House. Hear about Laura's practice and her experiences at Cemeti, Festival Mata Air, meeting Bismania Community, the development of new drawing and collaborative installation projects, and exploring the local Yogyakarta arts scene.
